So, I'm working out about 5-6 times a week (always rotating muscle groups to give each set 48 hours of rest), doing cardio and strength training and a buttload of stretching. My calves are naturally big and muscular, but as a girl, I'd like to slim them down to a more feminine shape. Is there a way to do this, or should I just embrace my big strong calves?

So a few questions in one?? I am a little taller then 5'3 and weigh 133 pounds. I cant seem to lose weight very easy either! Am i overweight?! I have large calves and i HATE HATE HATTTTTTTE them, is there anyway i can get them smaller? I have a fairly big butt, i like it, but i would like for it to be more toned beneath it. Any suggestions for any of these?

There is no exercise that makes a body part smaller or removes fat from there. The human body does not work that way. The only way to make your calves smaller is to increase exercise and lower caloric intake, thus lowering your body fat. You might lose your butt in the process. You can easily counteract this by doing freeweight barbell squats. Start with an empty barbell and do 5x5 squats, squatting 3 times a week. In 3 months or less, you should be squatting your body weight. You will have lost a lot of fat in your butt, but it will be replaced by muscle. Buy the book Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe if you plan on squatting. Like most exercises, the squat is very technical and there is a high probability of injury if done improperly.

To lose fat:
1. DON’T BELIEVE THOSE FAD DIETS! DIET PILLS ARE GIMMICKS!
2. DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF! Unless you are 4ft tall, a 1,200 calorie a day diet is DANGEROUS and won't work in the long run.
3. Calculate your BMR. Do a google search. A good calculator would ask for your age, height, weight, and activity level.
4. Eat healthy and eat about 500 calories a day less than your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Your BMR is how many calories you need per day to maintain your current weight.
5. Eat 5-6 small meals a day. This keeps your metabolism up. Each meal should include fruits, veggies, water, and protein.
5. Drink at least 64oz (8 8oz glasses) of water a day. No soda (that includes diet soda).
6. Do light/moderate cardio 3 to 5 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes each time. Running, bicycling, and swimming are great for this.
7. Do some strength training to make sure you lose fat and not muscle. Don't worry; you won't look like the hulk if you lift weights.
8. You should lose about 1-2lbs (.45-.9kg) per week. If you lose more than that, chances are the rest is stool, water weight, or even muscle mass.
9. Weigh yourself only once a week at the same time (ie every Friday morning). Your weight fluctuates a lot during any 24hour period because of water and food intake and also bowel movements.
Be patient and be smart. If you follow this guideline you will be very happy with your results.

Cardio is your best chance at reducing any fat while maintaining a healthy diet, as far as I know you cannot take away fat from any area you want unless you can surgery but I doubt you will be doing that so go for long runs or do a 30 minute jump rope session while going on a high fruit diet and vegetable, eat three meals a day and avoid all junk food or snacks and eat proportionally(see food charts, just google it) also only drink water, avoid a lot of protein, cause you do not want to become bigger so maybe soy chicken for dinner in small sizes, avoid all fatty foods. This is what I know because I lost a lot of weight doing it but I am sure there are more than this way.

My lower part of my body is unproportional to my my upper. I have short legs, so my legs look fat. My calves are somewhat hard. How do I get thinner, leaner calves?

How'd you get them so big?

See, I have genetically small calves and no matter how I try, I can't get them any bigger. I guess I just have to accept that mine are small.

Maybe, just maybe you have genetically big calves and because of that, you're stuck. There's no anti-muscle exercise. Wear pants if you're self-conscious.

Distance running. I suggest you start with 20 minutes of easy conversational pace running. You can definitely tone your calves. If it is fat, it will go away. If it is big muscle, distance running will make it smaller.

Your calves and thighs are a function of your genes, running would make them toned not larger, running doesn't exert enough force to do that. Distance runners don't have small calves or thighs because they are distance runners, they were born that way and became distance runners and their physiques helped, the same way height helps basketball players. You don't have to be seven feet tall but it helps. Changing the size of your thighs and calves, unless you are overweight, is like changing the color of your eyes. Good luck with your running.
